Beware of the New Facebook Laptop Scam Offering Deals too Good to be True

A new scam is in vogue on the Internet and in particular on social networks, especially the most popular of them for Bulgarians – “Facebook”. It is an aggressive advertisement that offers laptops for BGN 4 each, which allegedly came with damaged packaging and are therefore being sold for a pittance.

“At the Amazon warehouse in Sofia, there was an incident in which the transport boxes with a batch of Lenovo laptops were damaged. Amazon is organizing a promotion and offers them to the residents of Bulgaria for only BGN 4. To order a Lenovo laptop for BGN 4, enter the site and fill out the form,” reads the text of the ad, accompanied by a huge photo of laptops and the eye-popping price tag.

For greater persuasiveness, under the post there are heaps of fake comments of supposedly satisfied winners, some of whom even took pictures with laptops.

The scam continues after clicking on the link that opens a new page. There already, in order for the illusion of profit to be complete, three balamic questions must be answered. After that, a game with boxes begins, and in three attempts the user must find a laptop in one of them. Of course, whichever box is clicked on it pops up a laptop and a message: “Congratulations! You’ve won”.

And then it’s time to fill in the laptop delivery data. The final part is to pay BGN 4, and, of course, you must enter all the necessary data from the bank card, including the three-digit payment code. From now on, there are no problems to drain the account of those who are happy for a cheap laptop down to a penny, without being able to trace the path of the money.

Cyber security experts have repeatedly warned over the years not to provide personal and bank details on unverified sites, but this kind of fraud continues to flourish.
