Tesfaldet Tekie, 26, joined Hammarby IF last winter after spending the last few seasons in Holland where he represented both Fortuna Sittard and Go Ahead Eagles.
Tekie signed a contract until 2026 and was trusted by Marti Cifuentes during the spring where he started the first 13 games.
For a number of weeks now, Tekie has been in the freezer and for Expressen the player opened up to leave the club before the transfer window closes.
– I came here to play. Then if I don’t compete on the same terms as everyone else then I have to think about what I have to do to be able to play, Tekie explained then.
Negotiating with club
Now everything points to Tesfaldet Tekie leaving Hammarby IF.
According to information to Expressen, Hammarby is currently negotiating with a major Cypriot club where the clubs hope to reach an agreement before the transfer window closes.
Even if nothing is ready or signed, the talks have come a long way and according to Expressen’s sources, the parties will discuss a loan with a purchase option.
The parties are close to an agreement and if all goes well, Tekie can fly to Cyprus as early as Monday or Tuesday to undergo a medical examination and sign.
The transfer window closes on Thursday at midnight.
The tea fold Tekie has been in Marti Cifuente’s freezer since last summer.
