The businessman, former president of the organizing committee of the 2019 Pan American Games and former member of the ‘Vaccine Command’, Carlos Neuhaus, was appointed president of the Popular Christian Party (PPC), a group that seeks its re-registration in the Registry of Political Organizations (ROP) of the Jury National Elections (JNE).

They will accompany Neuhaus in the vice-presidencies of the PPC Miguel Ángel Mufarech, Norma Vega and Gastón Cajina.

The general secretariat will not focus on a figure: they agreed that it be collegiate. It will be made up of Claudia Chirinos, Matilde Lozada and Javier Bedoya, grandson of the founder of the group Luis Bedoya Reyes.

Finally, the PPC announced that the former president of the Constitutional Court and current dean of the Faculty of Law of the San Martín de Porres University, Ernesto Álvarez, will chair the Advisory Council of the party.

It is unknown if the former president of the PPC, former presidential candidate and historical leader, Lourdes Flores Nano will hold any leadership position during the party’s re-registration process.

As recalled, the group was one of the 15 political organizations that lost its registration after failing to obtain a seat in Congress in the 2021 General Elections or overcome the 5% electoral fence.

In an interview with Canal N, Javier Bedoya highlighted the figure of the former president of the PPC, Lourdes Flores Nano; however, he did not specify whether the former presidential candidate will hold a leadership position.

“Lourdes is a person who is also important inside and outside the game. She is a person who has an important trajectory. Presidential candidate, she has denied it over and over again,” she stated.

Bedoya also did not anticipate that militants could be eventual candidates for the Government Palace.

“The presidential candidacies will have to be seen later. In light of what we are seeing and have seen, with more than 30 parties, it would be illogical to say that any of them will win with a narrow margin and will have support in Congress or electoral support that will allow them to rule quietly for the next 5 years. I see it as highly unlikely, ”he alleged.

“I think what has to happen is that like-minded parties come together and form alliances. In such a way that the vote ends up atomizing as it has happened in 2021. (Would the PPC ally with the APRA?) No, no, no. There is no one with whom to form an alliance. It is a position that I think is being discussed and should continue to be discussed within the parties,” added the grandson of Luis Bedoya Reyes.

According to the ROP of the JNE, to date there are 24 registered parties. The last to obtain this recognition were “Faith in Peru” by Álvaro Paz de la Barra, “Libertad Popular” by Rafael Belaunde Llosa, “Perú Primero” by Martín Vizcarra and the “Peruvian Aprista Party”.

In March of this year, the Popular Christian Party (PPC) greeted the Peruvian Aprista Party after the latter achieved its re-registration in the ROP of the JNE after overcoming the period of strikeouts.

“We must recover respect for the substance of politics, for the content, for the substance. We are getting used to the politics of the conjuncture, to the politics of the adventurous and improvised. In this sense, the Parties must undertake reforms to recover the dignity and social utility of politics and thus repair the current distancing of citizens. It is necessary to revitalize the classic values of democracy to face today’s threats. For this reason, the PPC salutes the Peruvian Aprista Party for its re-registration and its contribution to consolidating institutions and democracy in Peru,” the statement read.
