In an intensively fought district derby, Sebastian Haller initially forced Bochum’s goalie Manuel Riemann to make a strong save (6′), before Stöger scored with a powerful shot into the far corner to give the home side an early lead (13′). The aggressively appearing Bochumers continued to set accents. After a Stöger corner, Philipp Hofmann beheaded the crossbar (32nd), so it remained a narrow but deserved half-time lead.
The hitherto weak Borussia, for which Marcel Sabitzer was on the pitch until the 61st minute, equalized after the break. Malen took aim from the edge of the penalty area (56′), but the shot seemed sustainable. Stöger almost tied the brace with a deflected shot, BVB goalie Gregor Kobel prevented the goal with a great save (68th). In the end, Bochum got the first point a week after the 0:5 debacle in Stuttgart.

Hoffenheim turns 0: 2 deficit
Heidenheim missed their first league win in the home game against Hoffenheim despite a 2-0 lead and even ended up losing. Jan-Niklas Beste initially missed from the penalty spot before the midfielder scored with a free kick that is well worth seeing. Marvin Pieringer made it 2-0 after a corner (58th). Hoffenheim secured their first win of the season thanks to a double from Maximilian Beier (77′) and Pavel Kaderabek (80′) within three minutes and a penalty from Andrej Kramaric (90′).
The second climber, however, remained without a point. Darmstadt lost to Union Berlin despite being outnumbered for almost 70 minutes after an early yellow-red card from ex-Salzburg player Brenden Aaronson. New signing Robin Gosens scored twice in his first start in the league (4′, 34′), while Kevin Behrens (39′) and Danilho Doekhi (65′) also scored for the Union.

Wins for Wolfsburg, Cologne and Leverkusen
In Cologne, Jonas Wind became the match winner for Wolfsburg. In a brisk early phase, the Danish attacker initially missed two top-class players before converting the 0-1 deficit into a win in the second half with two goals (62nd, 72nd). Luca Waldschmidt previously scored for the billy goats (55th).
Freiburg, meanwhile, celebrated a home win against Werder Bremen in the very last minute. Initially, Vincenzo Grifo, Roland Sallai and Lucas Höler failed because of the strong Bremen goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka, before Maximilian Philipp made the decision late (96th).
In the evening game Bayer Leverkusen underlined its role as a contender for the German championship. Coach Xabi Alonso’s team won 3-0 (2-0) at Borussia Mönchengladbach (with Maximilian Wöber) and celebrated their second win after beating cup winners RB Leipzig 3-2 at the start. Victor Boniface (19th minute/53rd) with a brace and Jonathan Tah (45th + 6th) scored the goals in front of 54,042 spectators for Leverkusen, who are second in the table behind 1. FC Union Berlin.
