Someone says that changing your mind is a sign of intelligence. Maybe, but maybe in politics it’s not exactly the best. And this is what happened to Carlo Calenda, leader of Action, who published a post on X in which he criticizes the government’s choice to present an institutional reform for the direct election of the prime minister. «The government seems willing to present an institutional reform for the direct election of the prime minister. It is a wrong reform in merit and in method – writes Calenda on X – What does not work in Italy is the Parliament and the relationship between the Regions and the central State. It would be useful for the government to focus on wages, health and Pnrr while institutional reforms must be addressed by a bicameral commission with drafting powers, seeking a broad agreement”.

It is a pity, however, that, only a year ago, Carlo Calenda thought in a diametrically opposite way and defended the choice to opt for an institutional reform that would go in the direction of the mayor of Italy. “The country needs stable and efficient governments, at the service of the citizens – wrote Calenda on August 19, 2022 – With the Mayor of Italy, after the elections we immediately know who has won and who wins governs for 5 years”.
