Germany’s public radio broadcasts calls for assassination of Ukrainian President Zelensky: Scandal and legal implications

In Germany, public radio Deutschlandfunk broadcast calls for the assassination of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, quoted by Focus, writes about this.

The incident happened during a discussion program on the topic “Ukraine – how to stop Russia’s aggressive war?” A listener named “Fischer” left a message on the answering machine saying that the war in Ukraine could be ended “very simply.”

“Arrest Zelensky and his gang of criminals, tear him alive and cut off his head,” the message said.

Against the background of such statements, a scandal broke out on the public radio airwaves, and local publications even reported that one of the lawyers wanted to open a criminal case against both the listener and the editors of the radio for hate speech, aiding and abetting public calls to commit crimes.

In response to an inquiry by the German Press Agency on Wednesday, August 23, a spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office in Cologne said that the prosecutor’s office had not received any criminal complaints about it.

The radio station has since apologized for the listener’s comments and removed his comment from the music library.
