AMD presented their new graphics technology, which will also provide more frames per second on the Xbox Series X/S.
AMD not only presented the new graphics card generation at this year’s Gamescom, but also made Xbox players sit up and take notice. With the new FidelityFX Super Resolution, or FSR 3 for short, the chip manufacturer not only wants to stir up the graphics card market for the home PC. The console market will also be able to benefit from the new technology in the future.
Similar to the DLSS technology from Nvidia, AMD graphics card users receive a performance bonus that only reduces the image quality of the game to a small extent. AMD has already announced that the new technology in Forspoken will increase the frame rate from 36 to 122 frames per second at a resolution of 4K. FSR 3 will also be supported in other games in the near future, including Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty.
During the presentation, AMD announced that FSR 3 technology will also work with Xbox Series X|S. The current console generation from Microsoft runs with its own AMD Radeon GPUs, which could benefit enormously from this new technology with an update. Interestingly, the chip manufacturer didn’t say a word about PlayStation 5 compatibility.
AMD was able to confirm in advance that they are working with well-known publishers such as SEGA, Square Enix, CD Project RED and Epic Games. For Epic Games, a separate plugin for their Unreal Engine will be provided as part of the expansion. Unfortunately, AMD didn’t announce when you can expect the frame rate boost. However, there was a bonus at the end: The company finally announced that the technology should also retrospectively strengthen all DirectX 11 and DirectX 12.
