Berlin (epd). According to the new President of the German Teachers’ Association, Stefan Düll, artificial intelligence must have a permanent place in schools. “We cannot separate school from the digital world,” Duell told the newspapers of the Funke media group (Saturday). He opposed alarmism and scaremongering. “We also have to approach it with a certain confidence, show the children the opportunities and also apply it in the classroom,” he emphasized.
The pandemic caused a “huge leap” in the digitization of schools, said Düll. “Everyone has upgraded.” The President of the Teachers’ Association demanded that the Digital Pact 2 should come now in order not to interrupt this development.
The colleagues who teach German at his school are already working with ChatGPT in class, said Düll, who is the headmaster of the Justus-von-Liebig-Gymnasium in Neusäß, Bavaria. “The task is then, for example, write a baroque poem on this subject, with these words. And then the result is compared with the original Gryphius poem.” You can do a similar thing with a report or a speech. “You have to first teach the young people what makes a good text,” explained the teacher.
However, he gave up trying to write this year’s graduation speech with ChatGPT, admitted Duell. “The constant reworking with new orders to the AI was too stupid for me at some point. I have to get used to it more.”
