Legendary “The Price is Right” Host Bob Barker Dies at Age 99

Legendary host Bob Barker, who hosted the popular show “The Price is Right” for more than three decades, died Saturday at the age of 99.

Barker, who was born in a small town in Washington state, hosted “The Price is Right” for 35 years before retiring in 2007.

Since its premiere on CBS in 1972, Barker taped 6,482 episodes of the show in which contestants competed by guessing the prices of items to win money and lavish prizes.

Barker would have turned 100 in December of this year. His manager announced the news on Saturday with the following message: “It is with deep sadness that we announce that the greatest MC (master of ceremonies) in the world that has ever lived, Bob Barker, has left us,” said Riger Neal.

Barker has won 19 Daytime Emmy Awards, as well as the Lifetime Achievement Emmy Award for Daytime Television. Her retirement from “The Price is Right” came after her 50th birthday on television.

He also hosted the Miss Universe and Miss United States pageants from 1967 to 1987 before walking away from the organization due to his refusal to let them stop giving away furs as prizes.

Barker was also an avid animal rights activist, reminding people to spay or neuter their pets at the end of each episode of “The Price is Right.”

“The Price is Right” is the longest-running game show in US television history.
