We’ve been waiting a long time, but it’s finally here. AMD at Gamescom officially introduced new graphics cards, namely the Radeon RX 7800 XT and 7700 XT models, which will fill the existing gap between high-end and low-end cards in the lineup. As a result, they differ a little less than we might expect, but let’s take a closer look at the specifications.
The Radeon RX 7800 XT is built on a full Navi 32 chip with 60 computing units, a boost frequency of 2.43 GHz and a consumption of 263 W. As for memory, you can expect 16 GB of GDDR6 with a 256-bit bus and a speed of 19.5 Gb/s. The price tag is 499 dollars, respectively 549 euros (recalculation + 19% VAT).

AMD aims for a 1440p resolution with the card and compares it to the RTX 4070 from competitor Nvidia, which offers 4 GB of VRAM less, apparently also lower performance and costs $100 more, on the other hand, it has significantly lower consumption. AMD promises an average of 3.5% higher performance, the lead in rasterization can be really high, on the contrary, with ray tracing turned on, it loses in almost all titles. But we will have to wait for independent tests.

A cheaper model in the form of the Radeon RX 7700 XT also uses the Navi 32 chip, but a slightly truncated version of it. It will get 54 computing units, and on the contrary a slightly higher boost, 2.544 GHz. In any case, the memory is significantly reduced, the card only offers 12 GB with a 192-bit bus and 18 Gb/s. The consumption is only slightly lower, namely 245 W. The state is $449, respectively €489 (recalculation + 19% VAT).

For the lower-end card, AMD is also targeting 1440p, comparing it to the 16GB RTX 4060 Ti, which is $50 more expensive. It does have 4 GB more memory, but on the other hand significantly lower throughput. On the other hand, it can boast of 80 W lower consumption. According to AMD, the RX 7700 XT should be 12% faster on average. Again, the difference is often even more pronounced in rasterization, and given the large lead, even RT performance is relatively comparable.
Both cards will hit the market on September 6. Radeon RX 7800 XT will also get a reference model, 7700 XT will rely only on designs from partners.
