Former Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli spoke about the Big 3 Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. The Frenchwoman gave an interview to Tennis365.com, talking about the characteristics that differentiate the three greatest champions in the history of tennis, also highlighting the differences in love that the public felt for them.
Bartoli explained “It was more the timing than anything. If you talk to all the players and all the fans around the world, people appreciate Novak’s personality and have a lot of respect for his game.
Roger Federer is the definition of elegance, Rafael Nadal is considered a fighter who has won 14 times at Roland Garros. But nobody likes the third thief, Novak Djokovic.
If Novak had had just one other big competitor, he would have had a lot more fans. I think he’s earned everyone’s respect, but when it comes to love, it’s a little different. It’s human nature to encourage one or the other and not want the third.”
Roger Federer is not done with tennis
The Swiss won’t be returning to the courts, as he repeatedly stressed in the interviews he gave after his retirement.
Federer will be honored on Friday, September 22 at this year’s Laver Cup, which will be held in Vancouver, Canada. The winner of 20 Grand Slams will play the last match on Friday evening and then return to the court for an interview with Jim Courier. The former world number one has therefore decided to take part in the last tournament of his professional career.
Indeed, it was last September that the king said goodbye to tennis. This is not the first time that Roger Federer has returned to a tennis court that he has trodden, during tournaments that he has won. It has already happened twice.
The premiere, also in 2023, in Halle. On the occasion of the anniversary of the tournament, the most successful player, 10 titles to his credit, returned to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the tournament. Then, perhaps the most important of the celebrations, that of Wimbledon. Where he triumphed 8 times, no one like him in the history of the All England Club, Roger Federer was in the royal box.
Alongside his wife Mirka and Princess Kate Middleton, he attended matches on Center Court at Wimbledon.
