Lucille Werner will leave the House of Representatives after the elections, she announced on Thursday. Werner has been on the CDA list since the 2021 elections.
In an item by Jaïr Ferwerda about Werner’s departure from the House of Representatives, Hugo de Jonge talked about his memories of her, when a car drove up and Ferwerda pushed him aside. “Thank you for protecting me from being run over, otherwise I would have ended up with a disability,” De Jonge said. Werner himself has a disability and has always worked for people with disabilities in the Chamber.

At Humberto Tan’s table, the reaction to De Jonge’s joke was displeased. Werner thinks that De Jonge mainly made ‘a clumsy statement’. She entered the House of Representatives for four years because she wants people with disabilities to work. In her term she wanted to show that people with disabilities can do something. “We have such an enormous disadvantage and exclusion of people with disabilities in this country, we also have that in The Hague.”
“What I find complicated about the statement is that we should see people with disabilities as potential, as people who can do something, people who can be happy and not as pathetic, vulnerable or an object of concern. It is a pity that it so it is said, although I also know Hugo and I know that he does not mean that.”

Werner announced on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday that she would be leaving. She shared a farewell letter in which she wrote that she has achieved a lot in The Hague in recent years. She also thanks the CDA for the ‘honorable chance she was given’ and says she is convinced that the party will continue to create an equal society.
In March there was also a fuss about a joke by Hugo de Jonge, when he received a petition and advised 25-year-old single Frederieke. She wants to buy a house, but cannot afford it on her own: starters on the housing market are stuck. De Jonge asked her if Will had ‘already thought of a rich friend’:
