SpaceX and NASA Postpone Crew-7 Launch to International Space Station

SpaceX and the United States Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) postponed the launch of Crew-7 astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS). The launch has been pushed back by at least 24 hours.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA—SpaceX and the United States Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) postponed the launch of the Crew-7 astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS). The launch has been pushed back by at least 24 hours.

“NASA and SpaceX have withdrawn from the opportunity to launch the Crew-7 mission to the International Space Station,” the official said NASA in a statement email Thursday (24/8/2023) evening.

“Launch is now targeted at 3:27 a.m. Saturday, August 26, for SpaceX’s seventh crew rotation mission to the microgravity lab for NASA. There is much more to come.”

Reported Space, Saturday (26/8/2023), SpaceX revealed via X (formerly Twitter) that the delay could give the team additional time to complete and discuss analysis and ensure the vehicle remains healthy and the crew is ready to fly. However, SpaceX did not specify which problems require further analysis.

Crew-7 will send four astronauts representing four different space agencies to the ISS for about six months. They will get there aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon Endurance capsule, which has already made two trips to the orbiting laboratory.

Crew members include NASA astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli, commander of the Endurance; Andreas Mogensen of the European Space Agency (ESA), from Denmark, who will serve as pilot; and Satoshi Furukawa and Konstantin Borisov, from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and the Russian Space Agency Roscosmos, respectively. Furukawa and Borisov will become mission specialists on Crew-7.

As the name suggests, Crew-7 will be SpaceX’s seventh operational mission to the NASA space station. But this will be the 11th manned spaceflight overall for Elon Musk’s company.

One of the previous missions was still on the ISS. Crew-6 reached the orbiting laboratory in early March and was scheduled to depart about five days after Crew-7’s arrival.
