Producers of “The Crown” said Princess Diana’s death was dealt with “carefully and sensitively” in the final season of the drama.
“It may sound big and loud, but we’re not. We are people who measure our feet and we are sensitive people,” executive producer Suzanne Mackie told the Edinburgh Television Festival.
Netflix has previously faced criticism for its lack of accuracy in the historical narrative. The sixth season of “The Crown” is expected to premiere later this year.
The series will conclude with its sixth season, the story of the British royal family during the years following the death of Princess Diana, who lost her life in a car accident in Paris in 1997 at the age of 36.
“We had very long and nuanced conversations about how to tell the story of Princess Diana’s death, and I hope the public will judge it fairly in the end, but I think it was meticulously executed,” McKee said.
Mackie said Elizabeth Debicki, who played Princess Diana in the last two seasons, was an “extraordinary” actress.
Speaking at the festival, she added that the actress was very understanding. She added, “There was a great deal of respect from all of us, and I hope that will be evident when you watch the final season of the series.”

Andy Harris, another executive producer on the series, was asked if Queen Elizabeth’s death affected the show in any way, and replied: “I think Her Majesty’s death affected all of us and writer Peter Morgan in particular. But it’s changed quite a bit, and when you see it I think you’ll know what I mean.”
McKee said Morgan told her the show was “a love letter to the Queen”.
The Crown was launched in 2016 and will end when the sixth season is released on Netflix later this year.
