The Swedish manufacturer of electric car batteries Northvolt has announced that the company has attracted approximately 1.2 billion US dollars from investors, planning further expansion – the manufacturer’s plans include new battery factories in both Europe and North America, according to the news agency. The main investors this time were an investment company BlackRock, as well as various Canadian pension funds. Recently, North America is becoming an increasingly popular place to produce batteries for electric cars – manufacturers such as Panasonic have announced plans for their factories. New electric car factories are also planned.
So far, Northvolt has not revealed where exactly they plan to build their plant in North America, but agencies Reuters according to available information, it could be made in Canada. It is expected that the project could be officially announced later this year and its value is several billion dollars. Until now, Northvolt has mainly operated in Sweden – the manufacturer has a factory in Shelefteo and another factory is being built in Gothenburg in cooperation with Volvo. Northvolt has contracts worth tens of billions for the supply of electric car batteries to car manufacturers such as Volkswagen, BMW, Volvo and Scania. It is estimated that the total value of the contracts is about 55 billion dollars.
