Ryosuke Kiyasu: Solo Performances in 55 Countries, Leader of SETE STAR SEPT and Kiyasu Orchestra

Ryosuke Kiyasu has already performed in 55 countries with solo performances by 2023. He is the leader of such groups as “SETE STAR SEPT” and “Kiyasu Orchestra”, while since 2012 he is a member of the prominent improviser and avant-rock musician Keiji Haino (Keiji Haino) in the group “Fushitsusha”. As part of it, he has also performed in Riga – this happened in 2013 as part of the “Skanu mežs” festival.

In his performances, Kiyasu uses distinctly sharp equipment – one or two drumsticks and small drums, which are placed either on a table or on the floor. His sound and body language, on the other hand, are maximalist, and the British broadcasting company BBC has even called it not music making, but performance art.

In a way, Kiyasu is the elegant opposite of AMM’s Eddie Prevo (Eddie Prevost) – Prevo often plays a similarly limited range of instruments, such as bowed gongs, achieving a similarly reduced, concentrated sound. Kiyasu, on the other hand, compensates for the harshness of the equipment with the rejection of boundaries, exaggerated energy and musical maximalism.

Ryosuke Kiyasu’s performances have been highlighted in media such as the BBC, VICE France and Taiwan Times.
