You can get MagSafe on virtually any smartphone with wireless charging

Next month it will be three years since Apple introduced the iPhone 12 and with it the MagSafe charging system. The company from Cupertino didn’t come up with anything groundbreaking at the time – it basically just “wrapped” the coil for wireless charging with a magnetic ring and invented several accessories that can be attached to the back of iPhones.

In the world of Android, several manufacturers tried to copy this principle, but it happened more with less interesting phones without a greater global response – for example, we wrote about the Nubia Z40 Pro smartphone or the Oppo MagVOOC and Realme MagDart technologies. But there are also solutions to get “MagSafe” on practically any Android phone.
One of these solutions is the Spiegen OneTap. It is a magnetic ring, which is equipped with a strong 3M adhesive tape on the other side – just stick it on the back of the phone (ideally flat and glass) around the coil for wireless charging. The magnetic ring will protrude slightly from the back of the phone, but should fit under most cases without any problems.
The accessory is not only intended for Android phones, but can also be used with iPhones – in older models, it will supplement the missing MagSafe technology, in newer models, it will add stronger magnets, thanks to which the phone will stick better to, for example, a holder in a car, a power bank or a vertical wireless charger. This accessory is also sold by Spiegen.
More similar solutions can be found on the Internet, magnetic stickers are produced by the company Fixed, for example. Many can also be found on Chinese web marketplaces, some even built directly into phone covers. However, they may have less magnetic grip, so it’s better to read user reviews before buying.
Adding magnetic rings to the backs of phones is apparently only a temporary solution – the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) group presented the new Qi2 standard at the CES this year, which already includes a magnetic ring around the charging coil, and also increases the charging power up to 15 watts. WPC representatives revealed that the first phones and chargers using the Qi2 standard should arrive by the end of this year.
