General elections of 23-J, liveResults of the General Elections of 23J in Valladolid.
The Spanish have exercised their right to vote this Sunday. From nine in the morning to eight in the evening, millions of people have deposited their ballot in the ballot box to define the policy for the next four years. The stakes are high. The elections of this 23-J will define Spanish politics for the next four years: either a revalidation of the Pedro Sánchez-Yolanda Díaz coalition will come out or there will be a change of cycle if the PP adds a majority to govern, either alone or with Vox.
Citizens have deposited two ballots, one for the Congress of Deputies and the other for the Senate. From there will come those chosen to represent the Spanish in the chambers and, later, the Government will be elected, which will foreseeably be chaired by one of the main candidates: Pedro Sánchez (PSOE), Alberto Núñez-Feijóo (PP), Yolanda Díaz ( Add) or Santiago Abascal (Vox).
With the count underway, we show you below the live graph of the results of the general elections in Valladolid:
Yolanda Diaz (Sumar), Pedro Sanchez (PSOE), Alberto Nunez Feijoo (PP) and Santiago Abascal (Vox).
To govern alone, it is necessary for a party to obtain an absolute majority, which is achieved with half the seats plus one. In this sense, the Congress of Deputies is made up of a total of 350 representatives of the different parties, so that half stands at 175 and the absolute majority at 176 seats.
Less than a week before the elections, few details are already escaping about the career and personal lives of the candidates for the Presidency of the Government
The goal of an absolute majority is practically a utopia. The parties know that they are doomed to understand each other, as happened in the 2019 general elections, when the PSOE and Unidas Podemos reached an agreement to govern together. To do this, they have to achieve the sum of 176 representatives.
Regardless of the pacts, one month after the elections are held, the Congress of Deputies is set up, including the appointment of the members of the board and the president of the Chamber. In the following days, the king will receive the candidates to designate the person in charge of forming the Government at the Palacio de la Zarzuela.
If Congress approves the inauguration of the president with a majority, a new government is formed. If this does not finally happen, a period of two months is opened to carry out new investiture attempts. Once this period expires, the Cortes is dissolved and new elections are called 54 days later.
