The reason is not linked to the weather or swell forecast, but to security: the police mobilized primarily for the Ireland-Samoa rugby match at the Jean-Dauger stadium in Bayonne the same evening, they were not more in sufficient numbers to support the atypical event in Anglet on the beach of Les Sables d’or. Some 20,000 people gather there at nightfall during each edition to admire male and female surfers sliding on boards equipped with LEDs.
If, on the other hand, the waves are not there on Sunday evening, or if the weather conditions do not allow it to be held, the 2023 edition of Night Surfing will be purely and simply cancelled.
