The Norwegian intends to give his career a new direction and play at a club where he can have more space
Andreas Schjelderup’s father, Jørn-Tommy Schjelderup, assumed that his son wants to leave Benfica due to the lack of opportunities in the main team. The arrival of players like Di María led the Norwegian winger to realize that it will be difficult to conquer his space this season and prefers to give a new direction to his career.
“With the arrival of two new players [Di María e Gonçalo Guedes] in the positions that Andreas occupies, it has been communicated to Benfica that he intends to consider other clubs. After a meeting with Benfica, it was agreed that the wish will come true”, he began by telling the Norwegian portal ‘VG’.
“When the president decides to bring in a world champion and a legend like Di María, in addition to Gonçalo Guedes, the conditions have changed. This is also part of the world of football. There are no guarantees. But when there is no space to have minutes on a regular basis, there’s no way out but to take the experience with you and move on. I hope they keep this promise in particular”, expresses the father.
The 19-year-old Norwegian now has his career managed by Rafaela Pimenta, a businesswoman who manages the careers of players like Pogba, De Ligt and Haaland. The information was confirmed precisely by his father. “Andreas wanted me to take on a temporary role, while we waited for negotiations with some agents. He made his choice after the end of the 2022/23 season”, he stressed, and, as the news refers, the player was advised among others by Haaland’s father, Alfie.
