The cabinet is considering how the Lukoil Neftohim Burgas refinery can switch to non-Russian oil

An expert working group will be established in the Council of Ministers, which will coordinate all necessary activities on the part of the state to ensure a step-by-step transition of the refinery in Burgas to the processing of non-Russian oil.

A specific time schedule will be prepared for this purpose.

Today, the Security Council of the Council of Ministers discussed the potential risks in case of a possible early termination of the derogation for the import of Russian oil and petroleum products for processing at Lukoil Neftohim Burgas.

They are reflected in analyzes and reports of the Ministry of Economy and Industry together with the Ministries of Finance and of Transport and Communications, of the State Agency “National Security”, the State Agency “Intelligence” and the service “Military Intelligence”.

The members of the Council formulated concrete measures to reduce the risks, which will be proposed for discussion by the Council of Ministers.

The government will consider them in a closed session.

In mid-2022, the European Commission granted Bulgaria an exemption from the European oil embargo on Russia, valid until the end of 2024.

Before the summer vacation of the parliament, people’s representatives from “GERB-SDS”, “Continuing the Change – Democratic Bulgaria” and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms submitted a proposal for its early termination.
