Tragedy Strikes Brooklyn Home as Woman is Killed and Children Critically Injured in Hammer Attack
Brooklyn, NY – In a horrifying incident that has shocked the community, a 43-year-old woman was killed and her two young children critically injured in an attack at their Brooklyn home. The suspect, identified as Liyong Ye, 47, has been arrested and charged with murder and multiple counts of attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.

According to John Chell, the New York Police Department’s chief of patrol, officers responded to a 911 call about an assault and detained Liyong Ye as he was leaving the building, covered in blood. Upon entering the apartment, they discovered Zhao Zhao and her severely injured children. The children are currently fighting for their lives.
The motive for the attack remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities have confirmed that Zhao Zhao and Liyong Ye were not related. The neighborhood where the assault occurred has a large population of Chinese immigrants, and both Zhao Zhao and Liyong Ye were originally from China’s Fujian Province.
The tragic incident has left the community in shock and mourning. Lailing Yu, a neighbor who lives nearby, expressed her horror upon receiving a video of the bloodied children. She stated, ”I was shocked because the majority of Chinese people try to stay out of trouble.”
State Senator Iwen Chu, who represents the area, revealed that Liyong Ye had contacted someone with ties to the apartment on the day of the attack and asked them to pick up his son. When the individual arrived, they found Zhao Zhao and her children lying in pools of blood and immediately called 911.
Meanwhile, Zhao Zhao’s husband, who was working in Ohio at the time, desperately tried to return to New York upon hearing the news. It is believed that he is employed in the restaurant industry, where it is common for Chinese workers to take jobs in different locations.

State Senator Chu explained that the community is on edge due to the increase in hate crimes, stating, “There has been so much anti-Asian hate crime, it triggers them.”

Louis Lin, a resident in an adjacent apartment, described the shock and fear he felt upon seeing the blood-covered hallway. He identified the two children as David and Yaya, describing them as “just so lovable” and questioning how such a tragedy could occur.
