A spokesman for Unigarant, ANWB’s insurance company, said this reporting from radar. The Urban Arrow is a luxury electric cargo bike, which costs five thousand euros new.
Higher premium
Anyone who buys such a bicycle can only take out insurance through the ANWB at the dealer. The moment you take the electric cargo bike with you without insuring it in the store, you can no longer contact the ANWB for it.
In addition, at Unigarant you pay a higher premium for an Urban Arrow than for a regular electric cargo bike, says the spokesperson.
Unigarant took the measures some time ago, he continues. “This type of cargo bike is stolen so much that we had to make this decision.” He cannot give exact theft figures.
For now, the conditions only apply to the Urban Arrow, but he says they are keeping a close eye on the entire product group.
Fatbike insurance stops
Earlier this week it was announced that the ANWB will stop insuring fat bikes, electric bicycles with fat tires. The bicycle’s sensitivity to theft is also the reason here. Nine out of ten fat bikes would be stolen.
