A team of scientists from the Faculty of Agriculture at Cairo University in Egypt conducted this research. They tested the effects of the products “BRANDT Manni-Plex Cal-Mag” and “BRANDT Manni-Plex Ca-Zn” on potato growth and productivity.

The study found that using foliar-applied calcium and magnesium-rich fertilizers, especially on recently improved soils, significantly increases the size of potato production. Following this study, improvements were observed in the number, size, and weight of tubers.

Researcher HAHassan explained, “This can lead to increased profitability by improving both the quantity and quality of potato tubers, allowing them to be sold at higher prices. »

He also added: “This study highlights the importance of using the right fertilizers and the right fertilization methods, which can help reduce the costs to farmers associated with inefficient fertilization techniques. »

Improved marketing

According to the results of the study carried out at the University of Cairo, the foliar application of the products “BRANDT Manni-Plex Ca-Zn” and “BRANDT Manni-Plex Cal-Mag” on potato plants resulted in increased dry weight and nutrient accumulation in leaves. Researcher HAHassan indicated that this could be associated with the functions of minerals influencing potato plants.

He said: “There is still a need for further studies on potato tuber production, as well as on other strategic crops, to determine the precise link between the application of calcium, magnesium, zinc and certain environmental factors. »

The study also concluded that mineral-rich fertilizers stimulate plant growth, which leads to a noticeable increase in leaf size and total leaf count. She also revealed that these three essential minerals increase the total chlorophyll content of plants.

HAHassan added: “Our results highlight the importance of using high quality fertilizers and the benefits of their foliar application. This will certainly help farmers around the world to optimize the marketing of their products. »

Fighting world hunger

The results of this study conducted at Cairo University represent an important step towards developing more sustainable and efficient fertilization strategies for potato production.

“By optimizing fertilization practices, we can decrease the risk of declining crop productivity for farmers and improve the overall sustainability of their operations,” said researcher HAHassan. “This, in the long term, will contribute to increased profitability. »

HAHassan and his research team plan to continue their efforts to explore the potential benefits of other types of fertilizers and fertilization methods.
