Popular Party Sweeps General Elections in Galicia: Results and Impact on Leftist Parties

Bitter night for the Galician left. The Popular Party has swept the general elections at the tables of the land of Yolanda Díaz and Alberto Núñez Feijóo. With more than 95% of the votes counted, the PP obtains 13 seats, 3 more than in the November 2019 elections and which has been snatched, precisely, from the PSdeG-PSOE, which does not stop falling for its support in Galicia . Both in the previous regional ones and in the municipal ones of 28M.

On the other hand, to the left of the PSOE, Sumar takes exactly the same seats that United Podemos took four years ago and what all the polls had predicted. One for A Coruña and another for Pontevedra. For A Coruña, the elected deputy will be Marta Lois, who is also the president of Sumar. For Pontevedra, the new Sumar deputy will be Verónica Martínez Barbero, the until now general director of Labor with Yolanda Díaz in her ministry.

Perhaps the most bitter news of the night in Galicia has been taken by the Galician Nationalist Bloc, which some polls even placed in a scenario where their representation tripled. What was a common denominator was that duplication of seats that, in the end, has not been solidified either. The only deputy they have obtained is for A Coruña, Néstor Rego, who already took his minutes in 2019 and will repeat this legislature again.
