A scene worthy of a nightmare. When the police in Louisville, Kentucky (United States), are informed of a call for help coming from a window of a house last Wednesday August 16, around 7 p.m., they did not expect the grim discovery she was about to make.

The images of the rescue, entirely filmed by a camera carried by a policeman and picked up by the American media, are uplifting. Despite the barricaded door of the house, the police managed to enter the second floor of the house using a neighbour’s ladder.

A padlocked chain around the neck

And it is there that they discover a panicked woman, abused and chained to the ground for two days, with a padlocked chain around her neck. The agents tore the chain and exfiltrated the victim as quickly as possible, so that it is taken care of by paramedics.

The victim’s companion, Moises May, 36, was charged with the counts of kidnapping, intimidation, endangering the lives of others, assault, threats and harassment.

He cuts her hair with a machete

According to the first elements of the investigation, domestic violence was recurrent. The previous week, Moises May had beaten her and held her down on the bathroom floor to cut her hair with a machete. It was at this time that she would have decided to flee the home.

He pleads not guilty

Moises May then left the house, taking the victim’s phone with him. But she managed to get up and call for help through a window, a gesture that certainly saved her life. “He told me that when he came back, he would kill me. (…) I only had a few minutes” she testified.
