After chemotherapy, eat cold
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Dr. Walta Gautama Said Tehuwayo, Sp.B.Subsp.Onk(K) graduate of oncology surgeon at the University of Indonesia, said that cancer patients can eat cold dishes after chemotherapy to prevent effects such as vomiting.
“After chemotherapy, eat something cold. He (the patient) vomits, don’t give him warm water,” he said in Jakarta, Wednesday.
Walta said that her relatives who had colon or intestinal cancer admitted that they kept vomiting after chemotherapy. He then suggested that his relative eat cold dishes, for example those sold by traders near the house, such as grass jelly ice or cendol.

The relative then followed Walta’s advice and afterwards he admitted that he no longer vomited after chemotherapy.
“People who want chemotherapy, nausea and vomiting, the important thing is the first and second chemotherapy (no vomiting), three, four and five are safe. The way to overcome it is to chew a lot during chemotherapy so that it (digestive organs) work, I tell you to cut small fruits, ice cream,” explained Walta.
He said chemotherapy is usually given every three weeks, because the average cancer cell is able to divide in roughly 20 to 100 days. Therefore, he reminded patients not to be late for chemotherapy, aka according to schedule.
Chemotherapy is the administration of certain chemicals to cancer patients to kill or inhibit the growth of cancer cells. This treatment is said to cause side effects and can be different for each patient, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hair loss, loss of appetite, fatigue, fever, sores in the mouth, pain, constipation, and easy bruising.
In some cases, chemotherapy can cause more serious problems, although this rarely happens, for example, there is a rapid decrease in white blood cells, which can increase the risk of infection, which can lead to more severe pain.
However, not all cancer patients have to undergo chemotherapy, but by doing other therapies according to the nature of the cancer.
“People with the same stage, the same age, do not necessarily have the same therapy. That is what is called personalized medicine,” said Walta.
