Indian Ambassador Visits Buraidah Date Carnival in Saudi Arabia

Jeddah: The Buraidah Date Carnival organized by the Alqaseem Regional Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in the date city of Buraidah near Riyadh was attended by Indian Ambassador to Saudi Dr. Suhail visited Ijaz Khan.

The ambassador described the date carnival as an important food-economic-agricultural event here. Muktakantham appreciated the event by asking and seeing about the special events, programs and activities included in the carnival.

More than 45 popular varieties of dates are marketed at the carnival. After three weeks, the date fair will conclude on the 25th. The Ajwa variety of dates produced in Madinah is famous for its taste and medicinal value.

Dates of many varieties flood the market and large-scale buying and selling of them takes place and various events are staged as ancillary activities. Exhibition of date palm related handicrafts, reconstruction of ancient plantations, photography corner, exhibitions for painters, workshops introducing modern farming methods to produce quality dates, doubt clearing programs, awareness raising and seminars on issues like harvesting and care are staged throughout the carnival.

Saudi date exports in 2022 have exceeded 3,21,000 tonnes. Date cultivation and production of related products are now using advanced technologies. Due to this, a huge increase in production and exports has been achieved. Saudi Arabia exports dates to 111 countries. In 2021, Saudi Arabia will be the first international date exporter.
