A 20-year investigation
The facts date back to 2002. Two patients aged 75 and 82 respectively had lost their lives in suspicious conditions. It was finally proven that they had received high doses of insulin and muscle relaxant without having had a doctor’s prescription. The young nurse, in her twenties at the time, had quickly aroused the mistrust of her colleagues.
Especially since 18 cardiac arrests (against one per year on average) and nine suspicious deaths had been counted in the hospital between December 2001 and May 2002, a period during which the nurse officiated in the structure. Finally dismissed in May 2002, the young woman had denied any responsibility in the death of these patients. The investigation will have taken more than 20 years to lead to his indictment.
” I do not care “
It was an analysis of the body of the deceased septuagenarian which, in 2022, allowed the authorities to prosecute the nurse for murder. During the investigation, the police also recalled that the young woman had been found guilty of an arson started in another hospital where she had worked, before being finally acquitted on appeal in 2001.
During her arrest in 2022, the former nurse wore a sweater on which was written “I don’t care”. A provocation that had not played in his favor, especially since the forty-year-old finally pleaded guilty in an attempt to obtain a reduced sentence. This case is reminiscent of the life sentence of British nurse Lucy Letby, found guilty on Monday August 21 of the murders of seven newborn babies in the United Kingdom.
