The Security Service of Ukraine has arrested a swindler who extorted money from the families of captured military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In the Nikolaev region, a woman was detained who profited from the grief of the families of military personnel who were in captivity of the Russian Federation.
Case details 22 August disclosed press service of the SBU.
The investigation considers that the woman deceived over 500 families of captured soldiers. Taking advantage of their grief, she swindled funds, promising to provide information about the whereabouts of the soldier, as well as his condition. Having received the funds, she disappeared, cutting off all communication with the victims.
For her “services” the fraudster asked for up to 7,000 hryvnias. During her activity, she lured about 2 million hryvnias from her victims.
“To implement the scheme, the organizer created fake Internet groups on popular social networks called “Search for the missing” and “Come back alive.” There she offered her “detective services”“- said the SBU.
During a search, the fraudster found 64 SIM-cards, through which she swindled funds.
The woman was arrested under Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine “Fraud”. The maximum punishment for it is 12 years in prison, the minimum is a fine.
Earlier, Dialog.UA reported that the SBU had reported the suspicion of a “believer” Kokhanovskaya, who provoked clashes in the Lavra.
