Latvian Border Guards Detain Migrants with Weapons on Belarus Border

Latvian border guards used weapons to detain migrants on the border with Belarus. This was announced today, August 22, in the State Border Guard of Latvia.

It is reported that on August 20, five men were seen in the Silensky volost, who crossed the Latvian-Belarusian border. At the same time, the violators, a Senegalese and four citizens of the Congo, did not obey the legal requirements of the border guards and rushed to run. In order to detain them, the Latvian border guards fired a warning shot into the air.

“Violators have been returned to their country of origin in accordance with the law,” the Latvian agency said.

Recall that the migration crisis on the border of Belarus and the EU countries began in 2021. Riga blames the Belarusian authorities for what is happening. On August 21 alone, Latvian border guards prevented 107 attempts to illegally cross the border with Belarus, and since the beginning of the year the number has reached 6,134. At the same time, only 292 people were allowed into Latvia for humanitarian reasons.
