After France, Italy has also issued code red in various places due to the heat. In addition, France has issued the highest warning for another fifteen departments.
In Italy, code red applies in Rome, Milan and Naples, among others. It can reach 38 degrees in a large part of the country in the coming days. The Italian government warns people that it is best to avoid the sun and heat during the hottest part of the day.
France had already issued code red on Tuesday for the departments of Rhône, Drôme, Ardèche and Haute-Loire. The country has added another fifteen departments. Code orange already applies in about half of France.
The country may hit record temperatures of up to 42 degrees. That it is still so hot in France this late in the summer is extremely unusual.
With code red, the heat not only poses a danger to risk groups, but also to healthy people.
