Minister of Public Health Pledges to Address Concerns of Health Trade Unions

The Minister of Public Health, Population and Social Affairs Colonel-Major Garba Hakimi met yesterday morning, the general secretaries of the trade union structures of the health sector. Through this meeting, it is a question of discussing the concerns expressed by the central trade unions, in particular with regard to their grievances, with a view to finding appropriate solutions.

During this meeting, several concerns were raised by the general secretaries of the union structures present at the meeting. We note, among other concerns, the payment of the arrears of allowances of contract workers, the adoption of the General Statute of the Public Service, the revision of Decree 516, the question relating to the recruitment without competition of health workers, the difficulties relating to the training in certain sectors and the recruitment of auxiliaries of the Ministry in charge of health.

Introducing the exchanges, the Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Health, Population and Social Affairs, Mr. Adamou Hassan, recalled the various points of demands and the memorandums of understanding signed with these various trade union structures.

In response to these grievances raised, the Minister of Public Health, Population and Social Affairs has undertaken to continue the negotiation of these various points of claim within the limits of what the National Council for the Safeguarding of the Fatherland (CNSP) and the transitional government will affect the said Ministry.

In addition, Colonel-Major Garba Hakimi has made it clear to the various trade union structures that the time will be for sacrifices as the security threat committed by ECOWAS and its partners is a real threat. “We have to do everything we can, make sacrifices and stay united for a final victory. I know it won’t be easy but we will adapt in any case with the collaboration of everyone so that we can defeat this threat to our country, “he concluded.
