New York Mayor Eric Adams Visits Israel, Meets Benjamin Netanyahu and Protest Leaders

He will meet on Tuesday Benjamin Netanyahu as well as the leaders of the protest movement against judicial reform

New York Mayor Eric Adams began a three-day visit to Israel on Monday, his first trip to the Jewish state since he led the American megalopolis. The aedile began his trip by traveling to Jerusalem where he met the city’s mayor Moshe Lion and visited the Mahane Yehuda market.

Earlier, Eric Adams had traveled to the Jerusalem Arts Campus for an event organized by the UJA Federation of New York and the Movement to Combat Antisemitism, where he met with Jewish, Muslim and Christians.

“We are now at a time when we must transcend our desire and our faith to move from the status of worshipers to that of practitioners,” said the American city councilor on this occasion. “What we learn in our synagogues, churches, mosques and temples cannot remain in the sterile environment of our places of faith. We cannot be one world with so much faith, and be witnesses to so much of devastation. We must live in accordance with our convictions and with who we are.”

Sacha Roytman Dratwa, leader of the Anti-Semitism Movement, praised “Eric Adams’ dedicated commitment to the fight against anti-Semitism and religious bigotry in all its forms”, recalling also that the American official had was honored at the last Mayors’ Summit Against Anti-Semitism in Athens, Greece, “for his proactive leadership in securing and preserving Jewish life in New York.”

The New York City leader also visited spiritual leader of the Toldot Hasidic movement Avraham Yitzchak who was recently hospitalized, according to photos shared by Jewish media Belaaz. An initiative linked to the fact that Joel Eisdorfer, senior adviser to the mayor and also to the trip, is a disciple of this movement.

On his second day in Israel, the US mayor has scheduled meetings with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Eli Cohen. He will also meet with leaders of the protest movement against judicial reform, before visiting the Holocaust memorial at Yad Vashem and the Western Wall.
