New York Yankees’ Free Fall Continues: Playoffs Hope Dwindling in MLB Season

Nothing seems to stop the free fall of the New York Yankees in this MLB season, after suffering their eighth consecutive defeat this Sunday, ninth in the last 10 games and second sweep of the week.

The Bronx team has a negative record for the first time in decades (60-64), occupies the last place in the East division of the American League and everything indicates that it will not be able to advance to the Major League playoffs in 2023.

The specialized portal Fangraphs published its estimates on the possibilities of qualifying for the postseason and gave the Yankees 0.9%, below teams like the Detroit Tigers and the Boston Red Sox.

“We understand that we are in a difficult situation and that it is not going well,” manager Aaron Boone told NJ.com, highlighting the frustration of everyone in the organization with the results. “We are in the business of trying to fix it. We are discussing what are the best moves we can take to try to get on track.”

Although both Boone and captain Aaron Judge have publicly stated that they remain clinging to their chances of qualifying, the reality is stark. The Bronx are 9 games away from the American League wild cards (right now held by Tampa Bay, Houston and Seattle) and time is running out.

There are already 124 games played for the New Yorkers, which leaves a margin of less than 40 games to reverse the situation, a period in which they will have to face tough teams like the Tampa Bay Rays, Houston Astros, Arizona Rattlers and Toronto Blue Jays.

It’s no longer about how many games they need to win, which of course is “as many as they can.” They are also beginning to enter a scenario in which victories will not suffice, but will depend on other results.
