To the east, a fairway is being dug over 140 square meters. This should allow an electric motor boat, which is purchased according to the documents, to be able to drive in and out without touching the ground. With these construction projects, the Federers became acquainted with the strict regulations in the vicinity of water.
As can be seen from the documents, various considerations are to be provided for the buildings. “Replacement measures must be taken for 427 square meters of affected areas,” says a report by an engineering and planning office.
Much green
For example, it is planned to ecologically upgrade the lake shore along the entire approximately 100 meters of the Federers’ lake frontage. Among other things, over 200 square meters of flower meadows are to be created. One day, areas of reed could also grow as big as two and a half tennis courts. According to a report, the upgrading is relevant in terms of biodiversity, structural diversity and food supply.
This applies in particular in comparison to the previous situation with the heavily built-up bank and agricultural use. The city adds in a media release: “In addition, contaminated sites from the previous commercial activity (brickwork) are removed, which also enhances the natural habitat.”
Aqua Viva will review the project
This planned remediation of contaminated sites has kicked up quite a bit of dust in the past. The environmental organization Aqua Viva ensured that a first application was suspended. The present one was initially subject to public participation (see issue of November 23, 2022). “As announced, Aqua Viva has taken a position on the water space in the participation process,” says spokeswoman Jana Tischer.
When asked, the city of Rapperswil-Jona said that a handful of responses were received during last year’s participation process. “The city cannot comment on the content,” says Andrea Frei from communications.
You can find out more about this from Tischer at Aqua Viva. Your environmental organization has doubts about the eligibility for approval of the planned boathouse, since this new building affects the water area. According to the spokeswoman, this is an important element of the water body. However, Aqua Viva found that their objection points have now been taken into account as far as possible. Nevertheless, the project will now be re-examined in the public release, says the spokeswoman.
Half a year construction time
In fact, hardly anything critical can be inferred from the planning documents. An analysis showed that there are only few ecological values with regard to underwater vegetation and fauna. With the exception of the water lily occurrence, no protected species were identified.
The documents will be available in the town hall until September 20th. It takes around six months to complete the boathouse and the other projects after the building permit has been granted. So if everything goes according to plan, the Federers will have finished building next spring. And the whole village.
