(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Jandi Kim = The tentative cause of death of a victim who was raped and killed on a hiking trail in an ecological park in Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul on the 17th was found to be suffocation.
According to the police on the 21st, the Gwanak Police Station, which is investigating the case, received oral findings from the National Institute of Scientific Investigation (NFS) that an autopsy showed that the victim had been assaulted on the head and back, and that the main cause of death was presumed to have been suffocation due to pressure.
As a result, the possibility that the perpetrator Choi Mo (30, arrested) not only assaulted the victim but also strangled him is newly raised.

The exact cause of death can only be confirmed after receiving a final autopsy report from the National Forensic Service.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency will open a personal disclosure committee on the 23rd to review whether to disclose the face, real name, and age of the suspect Choi (30, arrested).
▲ When the crime is brutal and causes serious damage ▲ When there is sufficient evidence to believe that a crime was committed ▲ When it is necessary for the public interest, such as guaranteeing the public’s right to know and preventing recidivism and crime, Deliberate whether or not to disclose the identity of the suspect.
On the morning of the 17th, Choi was arrested on the spot on charges of indiscriminately beating and sexually assaulting a female victim on a hiking trail in a hill connected to a park in Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul.
It was investigated that Mr. Choi assaulted the victim with knuckles, a metal weapon he purchased four months ago, in both hands. The victim died on the afternoon of the 19th, two days after the incident.
Mr. Choi admits that he bought knuckles for sexual assault, but insists that the sexual assault was only an attempt on the day of the crime and that he had no intention of killing Mr. A. The police are investigating whether Choi had intentional murder by applying charges of rape and other murders under the Punishment of Sexual Violence Act.
When the final autopsy findings from the National Forensic Service are released, the causal relationship between the assault damage and death and the circumstances that led to the death will be identified. If suffocation due to pressure is the final cause of death, the likelihood of an intentional murder increases.
The police also completed forensics on Choi’s cell phone and computer and are analyzing the data. A search and seizure warrant was also executed to check search records on the portal site, and the results are awaited.
Choi’s psychiatric treatment history is also being checked through the National Health Insurance Corporation.
