A fire in a trash can stopped an ICE between Cologne and Düsseldorf for about an hour on Sunday evening. There were also problems with an interlocking.
According to a railway spokesman, there were no injuries. The train stopped on the free route near Hilden because of the fire, the spokesman said. When the fire department arrived, the fire had already been extinguished. The ICE 624 was on the journey from Munich to Dortmund.
Meanwhile, near Wuppertal, problems in a signal box also caused delays and the failure of several trains on Sunday evening. A defective signal box in the Wuppertal-Vohwinkel area affects traffic, said the railway spokesman. As a result, there are delays and sometimes cancellations.
