Final adjustments are underway for the infrastructure that will host the Indian Ocean Islands Games (IOIG) this week. A total of 14 sites have been designated to host the various sports disciplines. However, the rehabilitation works have encountered delays, putting the state under pressure to complete them within the next five days.
Rehabilitation work focuses primarily on improving the exterior appearance of the facilities, including painting and signage. However, the exterior works are not yet fully completed. Only sites in a noticeable state of degradation have been repaired, as is the case for the Mahamasina indoor gymnasium, which will host karate and taekwondo competitions. The repairs for this gymnasium were extensive, as even the sanitary facilities were out of order.
The Maki stadium, although closed for several months, is still in the preparation phase, particularly with regard to the renovation of the stands. The Alarobia gymnasium is not yet ready, as the work to lay tiles under the bleachers and in the toilets is still in progress. Counters must also be installed. Despite this, the athletes have already had the opportunity to experience the track. Barea Stadium will undergo its final operation this week and should be ready for the official opening ceremony.
Work is nearing completion for some sites, such as the ANS training pool in Ampefiloha and the Ankatso gymnasium for volleyball. On the other hand, other sports facilities have not undergone major transformations, such as the Sports Palace, the Ankorondrano gymnasium, the Vontovorona complex, the ACSA in Ambohidahy, the Iarivo ring road and the stadium of the ‘ELGECO.
