Swimmer’s Body Found in Amertak: Tragic Drowning Incident in Made

During a search in the water of the Amertak in Made, divers from the fire brigade found the body of a swimmer on Sunday afternoon. Medical help was of no avail. It concerns a 48-year-old man from Hooge Zwaluwe. He had disappeared while swimming and drowned, a police spokesman said Monday morning.

Earlier Sunday afternoon, the police control room received several reports about a missing man who had gone swimming in the water near Made. People saw him go under and then never come up again. The man’s belongings, including a towel, were found on the side.

The Amertak connects the Wilhelmina Canal with the river Amer and the Biesbosch. According to a police spokesperson, it is open water and not a recreational area.
