Waspada.co.id – The El Nino phenomenon that triggers drought in a number of areas, not only has the potential to bring about a drought disaster which will have an impact on reduced food supply.
But also human health, one of which is the risk of mosquito populations threatening health. Therefore, it is important to know how to avoid mosquito bites, which is important to avoid health problems such as itching, red skin, dengue fever, and malaria.
Check out seven ways to prevent being bitten, protect yourself and your home from mosquitoes brought from El Nino.
1. Remove stagnant water around the house: Mosquitoes can breed in as little as 14 days in very little water. Like in an old flower pot, gutter, or bathtub.
If you have a pond, add some mosquito-eating fish such as guppies, or minnows, then add a waterfall or fountain to keep the water flowing.
2. Make sure mosquitoes can’t get in: Use screens on windows or air conditioners to prevent mosquitoes from sneaking in from windows. You can also use a nice mosquito net to hang over your crib or baby’s crib.
3. Use mosquito repellent: Install mosquito coils, preferably electric ones so the smoke doesn’t bother you. Take advantage of insect repellent to repel or kill mosquitoes. Start with insect repellent sprays or in the form of lotions that can be applied directly to the body.
However, you need to be aware of skin irritation and avoid spraying chemicals around your eyes or mouth. Jonathan Day, a mosquito researcher at the University of Florida, says to concentrate the repellent on the ankles, feet, lower legs and wrists.
4. Wear bright colors: Dark colors like black, dark blue, and bright red attract insects. Thicker fabrics and looser clothing offer more protection than thin clothing.
5. Try to stay at home: Although mosquitoes can bite at any time, it is best to limit your exposure during dusk or perhaps at dawn. If you can’t avoid being outside during these times, be sure to take other precautions. (wool/okezone/ryan/d2)
