DC’s ‘Blue Beetle’ Surpasses ‘Barbie’ at the Box Office

DC superhero movie “Blue Beetle” led weekend ticket sales, with a modest opening of $25.4 million, distribution companies estimated Sunday, reported by the Associated Press.

The earnings, though modest, dislodged “Barbie” from the top spot, after a record-breaking streak that left movie theaters pink for a month.

Warner Bros.’s “Barbie” grossed a whopping $155 million from theaters in North America, in what was the year’s biggest opening and the strongest opening weekend for a movie directed by a woman.

Just three weeks later, “Barbie” was a smash hit, collecting $1.03 billion at the global box office.

This achievement made the writer and director, Greta Gerwig, history as the first female director to make a movie that achieves a billion dollars.

The story of Barbie revolves around two dolls, Barbie and Ken, who are having the time of their lives in the seemingly perfect pink world of Barbieland. However, when they get the chance to go into the real world, they discover the joys and perils of living among humans.

DC’s latest superhero movie, “Blue Beetle”, is about Jaime Reyes, who acquires a strange biotechnology that gives him a suit that turns him into a superhuman.
