Windows 11 to Support Native Decompression of RAR Files and More

Microsoft announced in Windows11 Insider Preview Beta channel Build 22631.2199,We announced that natively supports decompression of compressed files and archive files such as “.rar”, “.7z”, and “.tar”.

The newly supported file formats are:

.tar.tar.gz.tar.bz2.tar.zst.tar.xz.tgz.tbz2.tzst.txz.rar.7z

These compressed files can now be decompressed from Explorer.

However, at this time, files with passwords (encrypted files) are not supported, and the following error appears when you try to open them.

I get an error when I try to extract a password-protected compressed file
“Error 0x8096002A”

Currently, this feature is only implemented in Windows 11 Insider Preview, but it is scheduled to be implemented in the regular version of Windows 11 in the second half of 2023.
