The leading rugby teams on the planet are preparing for the 2023 World Cup finals and playing test matches, both to prepare for the big battles and, for which team it is still relevant, to weed out redundant players before the final squad is named.
So the current holders of the World Cup, South Africa, met Wales. It must be said that the performance of the Springboks was part of a series that left many thinking, but this time the thoughts were on the positive side, namely that the team is ready for their title defense campaign, as the Welsh Dragons scored eight touchdowns in their end zone and lost by 18:52.
Malcolm Marks scored the first touchdown of the match, with two five-point strikes each from Jess Creel and Keinan Moody, while captain Siya Kolisi, in his return from injury, spent a quality 40 minutes on the pitch.
On the other hand, Ireland, the current leaders of the World Ranking, hosted England in their home field, which is, of course, a principled duel.
This time, however, there was no fierce battle on the field, because even though the English opened the match result with an accurate penalty kick, Bandi Akī responded with a touchdown and the visitors were chasing the game in the further course of the match. It is true that the English had opportunities to fight back, but they were wasted when Mako Vunipola received a red card for an illegal catch in the 52nd minute of the match.
Fellow center Garry Ringrose also had a touchdown for Ireland, along with James Lowe, Mack Hansen and Keith Earl. Kyle Sinclair, who came on as a substitute, made the only touchdown for the English.
In other battles, France convincingly dealt with Fiji (34-17), Italy defeated Romania with 57-7, Georgia beat the USA with 22-7, and Uruguay dealt with Argentina’s second team with 33-13.
International rugby test matches will continue next weekend as the teams play their final matches before the World Cup finals starting in September.
