The Russian lunar lander Luna-25 has crashed on the lunar surface. Shortly before, communication with the lunar lander was lost when it entered an uncontrolled lunar orbit. This is reported by the Russian space agency Roskosmos.
Luna-25 launched last Thursday and entered lunar orbit on Wednesday. Tomorrow the lander would land near the south pole of the moon. Several countries are exploring that part of the moon, because it is likely to find water and rare resources.
Yesterday Roskosmos reported that a technical defect had arisen. The space agency has announced an internal investigation into the cause of the crash. It was Russia’s first lunar mission in 47 years.
