Rafael Vázquez Chávez, a historian from Cuautla, accused that the Church unduly criticizes the content of the basic level textbooks, when the topics covered are adequate for the academic development of the students.
The historian lamented that religious groups issue unfortunate opinions on issues such as sex education.
“The controversy has come from religious associations, however, education is compulsory, free, but above all secular, so there should not be any intervention by the church on the content of the books,” he said.

In his opinion, the issues bring minors closer to reality and make it possible to prevent and face social problems such as adolescent pregnancy, to mention an example.
“There are issues that need to be discussed from an early age, such as sexual education issues, which will allow problems such as adolescent pregnancy to decrease, since due to the lack of information on these issues in minors, it causes problems, what is there with minors”, he explained.
In conclusion, he urged religious groups to avoid misinformation, and thoroughly investigate the content of the books and the work of the specialists who designed them.
