Will Unreal Get the Remaster Treatment? Fans and Developers Weigh In

In recent weeks and months, we have seen several improved versions of older popular games. In addition to Red Dead Redemption, a new version of the classic action game Quake II was also released. And of course, this logically began to lead to the question of whether we will ever see a rival in the form of Unreal. However, in addition to fans, specific developers have also started to get involved in this debate, who definitely have something to say about this topic. One of the first was Cliff Bleszinski aka CliffyB, who was made famous mainly by the Gears of War series, but before that he also participated in Unreal, including the original from 1998. Bleszinski on Twitter he hintedthat Unreal deserves the same care as Quake II.

But interesting things were also heard in some additional answers and reactions. Here, for example, CliffyB says that Epic is primarily focused on Fortnite because of the money. He mentioned that when he left Epic, he suggested to his colleagues that he should do a remaster of the first Unreal. Among others on CliffyB he responded and the head of the Nightive studio, Stephen Kick. This team directly specializes in remasters of older games and has Doom 64, Quake or Quake II among others. In his contribution to the sebat, he also indirectly involved the founder and head of Epic Games, Tim Sweeney, whom he approached, saying that Nightive would be honored if they could take care of Unreal in the same way as Quake. In addition to the original Unreal, fans suggest that Unreal Tournament should also receive similar care, saying that it will be easy money for Epic.

But none of that just has to happen. It indicates, among other things contribution Poppy Works co-founder Wolfgang Wozniak. He revealed on Twitter that they tried to propose an Unreal remaster to Epic Games when the Switch was about to launch, and Epic rejected the idea, saying that Unreal was old and not worth it. In another post, Wozniak revealed that the response was also quite unprofessional and that the person they were dealing with had absolutely no interest in the thing that has the same name as the engine that Epic has built its business on.

In other words, despite fan demand, no officially improved Unreal may ever be released. He must be primarily interested in Epic. There is no doubt that this series deserves a comeback. But that doesn’t automatically mean that fans will get their wishes.
