The possible sale of luxury watches is investigated that were given as gifts at official activities.
A Brazilian Supreme Court judge authorized the Police to lift the banking and tax secrecy of former President Jair Bolsonaro in the case that investigates the illegal appropriation and sale of a set of jewels received during his term (2019-2022).
The decision, as reported by the Efe news agency, was made by magistrate Alexandre de Moraes and extends to the ex-president’s wife, Michelle Bolsonaro.
The Brazilian authorities are trying to unravel a plot around a series of jewels and objects of great value that the far-right leader, when he was still in power, received gifts during his trips abroad and that he had to hand over to the State heritage when he left power. .
However, according to investigations, Bolsonaro kept several of these luxury gifts and, through intermediaries, sold part of them in the United States, although later some of his collaborators repurchased them when the State demanded their return.

De Moraes’ ruling responds to a request from the Federal Police, which wants to investigate the accounts of Bolsonaro and his wife in search of suspicious transactions and, ultimately, to find out if the money obtained from the sale of those jewels reached the former head of state, who denies any type of irregularity.
The judge also gave the green light for the Federal Police to request the United States to lift the bank secrecy of those investigated who have accounts in that country.
