The peak of the annual Perseid meteor shower may have passed (this year, peak activity decreased overnight from August 12 to August 13), but Earth’s sky is still filled with stars.
The Perseids begin on July 14 and last until September 1, 2023, when Earth passes through a vast field of rocky debris left behind in the path of our comet Swift-Tuttle. Known as one of the most dazzling meteor showers to behold in the Northern Hemisphere, the Perseids have inspired stargazers and astrophotographers around the world to journey into the dark and train their cameras across the sky, in hopes of spotting up to 100 bright stars per hour. .
