If you’ve heard of The Nun, then you’ve probably seen Bonnie Erons’ face. As the main demonic entity, Erons appears in all marketing materials for the film and its upcoming sequel, but now the actress claims that WB hides the amount earned on her image to prevent her from profiting, and is suing the studio.
The lawsuit, first reported by THR today, accuses WB, New Line Cinema and Scope Productions LLC of breach of contract, breach of good faith and fair dealing agreements, and accounting. The lawsuit alleges that they “exploited the talent, creativity and image of Bonnie Erons … with enormous financial success” and did not pay her due compensation in accordance with the terms of the contract.
According to the lawsuit, Erons’ contract provided for a “fixed compensation” of $71,500 for her work on The Nun, plus possible additional box office earnings that ultimately netted her another $175,000, “but also required that Mr. Ms. Erons received a share of Warner Bros. gross revenue from merchandise using her likeness.”
“Instead of accounting and paying transparently,” the lawsuit alleges, “Warner Bros. conceals the true amount of Ms. Erons’ rightful share of merchandise revenue while continuing to exploit her.”
The lawsuit alleges that between May 12, 2019 and September 30, 2022, WB sent a number of written statements to Erons’s representatives alleging the actress’s share of merchandising revenue, “but these were inconsistent with Warner Bros.’s extensive character merchandising activities. “. Subsequent attempts by Erons representatives to obtain more detailed documentation from the WB on the matter, the lawsuit says, have gone “substantially” without a response.
